Sony makes an overly obvious attempt to lure men into purchasing a new Sony TV and an attachable module for internet on television, and offers free a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition--in video--for free.
When considering whether this purchase is a wise one, one thing to think about is that the separate internet to TV attachment costs $300. When considering that, on top of purchasing a unit like the Sony BRAVIA KDL-40XBR3 40 in. HDTV LCD Television with a Wize Rank of 98 and a price tag of on average $2300, this endeavor is a decent chunk of change for a video swimsuit subscription.
Now granted, for the early adopters and hard core IPTV fans out there, it should also be mentioned some additional content will be available. The Sony press release states:
New Internet channels will be coming from CondéNet, Sports Illustrated, blip.tv and Sony Pictures, which will add eight new Internet channels. The new content partners join a current roster of providers that include Yahoo!, AOL and Crackle, which have been live on the service since it launched in August.
While this content does seem interesting, for mass America, I suggest holding off on the additional internet-to-TV model. With so much content available from so many sources, there are a wealth of places to get much of this second run video that won't put an additional $300 dent in your pocket, that is unless you just have to have the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition.
