When I attempted to open Iphoto today, I ran into an error message on my Mac that I couldn't share my photos. The message read:
"Other users will not be able to access your shared photos because port 8770 is being blocked by your firewall software. Please disable the firewall for this port and restart iPhoto."
According to an apple.com article, you'll get this message with iPhoto 4 or later if access to the Internet via iPhoto is blocked by your firewall.
The article informs, "you can disable the firewall completely, or you can open the port that allows iPhoto to share while keeping the firewall active."
Here's how to open the iPhoto sharing port in firewall (8770):
1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. From the View menu, choose Sharing.
3. Click the Firewall tab.
4. Click the New button.
5. Choose Other from the Port Name drop-down menu bar.
6. Type: 8770 for TCP Port Number
7. Press Tab on your keyboard twice.
8. Type: iPhoto Sharing
9. Click OK.
