The Canon Rebel XS, or EOS 1000D is lighter and less expensive than the first Digital Rebel, the XT. If you remember it was the Rebel XT that opened the dSLR market to just about everyone because the price of it was affordable—less than $1000.
The new model is 10MP and can shoot JPEGs one after another at 3fps (frames per second). You also get Live View mode so that you can see the image you’re about to take on the LCD screen of the camera. Most dSLR cameras do not have this function which is common on most point-and-shoot cameras.
Other specs of the camera include: EOS integrated cleaning system, 7point wide-area AF system, 2.5-inch LCD with Live View shooting and SD memory card compatibility.
The camera also has the following shooting modes: Auto, Program, Tv, Av, M, Auto depth-of-field, Portrait, Landscape, Close-up, Sports, Night portrait, Flash Off.
