Go Green with CherryPal

Its Web site doesn't tell you much except that a new green machine is coming. CherryPal, the latest in green is a PC that weighs less than a pound.

It hardly has any components and uses flash memory instead of a cumbersome, energy-sucking hard drive. Plus, it doesn't get viruses.

The drawbacks: the machine has only 4GB of flash memory and 512MB of DRAM.

A third-party provides most of the computer resources.

SpectraWatt Makes Debut

Here's an interesting piece of news. Intel is making a new company--SpectraWatt. The company will produce solar cells.

Can you imagine if they can get solar cells to be effective and less expensive, we'll soon be able to plug our car into a house that runs solely on solar--living and driving from the sun's energy.

The article about the new company appears in Networkworld.com. They're working on making solar cells (or photovoltaic energy) cheaper.

CNET gets more specific about the product the company will make by interviewing Andrew Wilson, the former general manager in the Intel New Business Initiatives group, who will be SpectraWatt's CEO.

"The company will focus on improving solar cell efficiency--how well a panel converts light to electricity--as well as cutting the overall cost per watt," Wilson was quoted as saying.

Other companies are getting into the solar game, too. From IBM  and HP, companies are flocking to get a piece of green.
