MySpace's Hip-Hoppin' Into the Music Business

Social Networking sites are going to be tuning people in to the latest music and video downloads.

Well, at least MySpace is. The New York Post is reporting that Warner Music Group and Sony BMG are planning a joint venture with the social networking site.

According to the Post "the labels are trading content rights in exchange for minority equity stakes in MySpace Music."

My Space already has a portal that promotes music and lists event dates. The music downloads probably will be available there.

MySpace is owned by News Corp, the same company that owns the Post and MySpace.

Since the Post and MySpace are owned by the same company, it's no wonder that one will know news and gossip about the other!
 

Helio Builds on YouTube Relationship

And now...CNET has announced that Helio has souped up the YouTube video offerings for its Ocean handset.

Users of the double-keyboard smartphone will find it easier to upload videos to YouTube.

They'll also be able to provide tags, descriptions and settings to the videos they upload.

In other words, the YouTube experience on Helio's Ocean Handset is now similar to the experience you have on a laptop. 

Google and Myspace vs Microsoft and Facebook

It’s Google and Myspace vs Microsoft and Facebook in a battle over who’ll dominate the online social network scene.

After yesterday's announcement that Google and Myspace announced plans to build applications using social network APIs called OpenSocial, developers can now write applications for smaller social network APIs.

According to an article in the LA Times, “software developers could now use a common technology standard Google had created to build features for MySpace users.”

Just hours ago, Slashdot reported that "starting tonight, developers can start writing applications using the social API for Orkut, MySpace, Engage.com, Friendster, hi5, Hyves, imeem, LinkedIn, Ning, Oracle, Plaxo, Salesforce.com, Six Apart, Tianji, Viadeo, and XING."

Just last week Microsoft had teamed up with Facebook, winning the right to invest in the fast growing social network site.

T-Mobile USA Annouces the Hot New Sidekick LX
