Sony Considering Movie and Music Distribution on PS3

I have been wondering when this move would occur since IPTV started being discussed at CES back in 2000-ish. 

It seems, Sony is now considering placing a higher emphasis in the PS3 multi-media capabilities than strictly pushing it's gaming functionality.  This could be a move to overcome decreasing sales in their console market, and compete more directly with Microsoft's Xbox Live service. 

In addition, for those lucky Europeans, the PS3 will be rolled out with DVR capabilities.  I am actually surprised it has taken so long for this simple functionality in the PS3, to hit the market.

That said, the mass market does not think of a PS3 as a multi-media box, and it will take Sony some time to distinguish the console as such.   I don't think anyone is planning to trade in their Tivo in the next couple of months, for a PS3. 

More Details Emerge About the Sony PlayStation Eye

The successor to the PS2 EyeToy is due to make an appearance, and as we await the day, Sony leaked some new information today on details. 

According to the official Sony Blog, the PlayStation Blog will have a two-setting zoom lens for normal and wide angles, as well as automatic focus. It is said to be able to capture pictures at 60-frames per second with 640x480 resolution.  Like the EyeToy it will also have a microphone for audio and video messaging.

Rumor is this new toy will be available in 2 weeks time, come October 22nd with a price point of $40.  For more information, check out the video below:

Wize Rumor Report: Sony Back on with PS3 Announcement

Wize.com has learned according to Pocket-link, who has confirmed from multiple sources that Sony is back on to announce their 40GB PS3 tomorrow, October 5, 2007.  According to the sources, Sony will also give details into the price which stands at $399, as we report this past week, and will place the street date perfectly in time for the holiday shopping season.

The 40GB PS3 is expected to feature WiFi, Blu-ray, and SIXAXIS controller but will lose 2x USB slots, the memory card reader, and backward compatibility chip.

Wize Rumor Report: BestBuy Leaks News of Sony $399 PS3

Wize.com has learned that a tipster close to Engadget.com has revealed the news detailing a $399 PS3 with a 40GB hard drive.  In addition, the Superman 3 with Blu-ray is expected to be included, and states so in the documents revealed. 

Set you calendars and start looking for Sony PS3 rumors, because the stock-date is expected to be October 28th, which is sooner than previously anticipated.  However, the more important street-date is still yet to be determined. 

October 12th will be the day of reckoning when we hope to all learn when exactly we can get our hands on the coveted new PS3 player.  Until then, we'll keep the updates coming...

Sony DualShock 3 PS3 with Rumble Has Planned Release

Wize.com has learned that the DualShock 3 SIXAXIS controller from Sony was presented at the Tokyo Game Show today, with the rumored Rumble feature.  Japan will get the SIXAXIS first, when it debuts in November of this year.  For us Northern American's and Europeans, we'll have to wait until Spring 2008. 

No price point yet, but hopefully soon...

Sony to Announce PS3 Rumble This Week

It would not be the Tokyo Game Show without some rumors coming out of the Sony camp, and IUP released a podcast which confirmed the PS3 Rumble announcement. 

Sony has been widely criticized for omitting rumble on the PS3, a technology which company vice president Phil Harrison recently called a "last generation feature."

Only time will tell...

PS3 Holiday Rumors Surface

Could it be?  Rumors today already surface from Ars Technica that a $400, 40GB, PlayStation 3 is coming this holiday season! 

In addition, sources say Sony will be dropping the price of the 80GB PS3 down to $500.  That means you can pick up some of the top rated PS3 games, with that money you have saved. 

As for the PlayStation 2, Ars Technica is reporting that the price will drop to a mere $100.  That's just a little more than the price of one game.
